Five Steps to Finding Your Niche in Blogging

It is so important to decide what your niche is before deciding to write a blog. Do you have a hobby? Do you have something that you are passionate about? The most important thing is to have something that readers want to read about.

So how do you decide? Do some searches on the internet in your field of interest and see if there are blogs already written on the subject. If so, you are in luck! Because that means that there is a need for what you have to offer! So now you have found your niche. It is very important to write about something that you love doing. That way it is easy to let the words flow on the page.

Step 1. Readers are always looking to solve a problem. When they do a search on the internet and they want to find it fast. It is your job to make it simple to find YOU! Do you have a solution to their problem? Do you have the information that they are searching for?

Step 2. Relieving Fears. Perhaps something you could write about is relieving fears in others. Have you lost a loved one and maybe you could share your experience? Do you have an elderly parent that you had to make the decision to put into a nursing home? A lot of people have these same fears and this could be a niche area for you.

Step 3. All Readers Are Looking to Learn Something New. Do you know a special way to make a fishing lure that can catch an enormous amount of fish? Do you crochet and have some special tips and advice that you could share with them. Maybe you are a skilled craftsman and have some really unique plans for a bird house or a squirrel feeder. Are you a retired school teacher that can share something with parents to help their children do better at math?

Step 4. Your Readers Have a Goal. Have you reached some special goals in your life that you could share and teach to others? Can you inspire them to do the same thing? Have you learned ways to get out of debt faster by paying off your mortgage early?

Step 5. Readers are Hungry to be Entertained. The key here is to provide something totally unique as there are tons of blogs dedicated to entertaining on the internet. Also, these articles are in magazines and on TV. Perhaps you are a comedian and perform on stage, you could write articles about becoming a comedian. Do you live a very interesting life that is full of joy and laughter? Then write about it.

It is important to remember that you are writing for others. You want to write about yourself but you must write about what is interesting to them. Do your research on the particular niche you want to write about. See how many other blogs like yours are out there. Will your blog be better? Can you reach a different audience by just changing a few things? Also, will you be writing for profit? In other words, do you plan to sell a particular product in your niche.

Do your research and see if others in your field of interest also has a product that they promote. Back to the fishing lures as an example... can you make your own lures to sell?
