Affiliate Marketing Tip - What Is Niche Affiliate Marketing?

One of the best pieces of advice I received early on as an affiliate marketer was to choose one niche and stick with it until it was profitable. This is also called Niche affiliate marketing and we'll take a closer look at exactly what it is and how you can get started.

What Is A Niche
Think of a niche as a particular topic or a section of the overall marketplace. For example, weight loss is a niche. "Weight loss for new moms" is an even tighter and more specific niche. The idea here is to focus on just one niche in the beginning. This doesn't mean that you have only one website, instead, you want to focus on building several sites, social media presence etc in one particular niche. For example, I am focusing on teaching affiliate marketing... that's my main niche.

I don't go out and build one site on dog training, another on weight loss and a third one on list building. That doesn't give me much leverage. Instead, I'm focusing my time and energy on building affiliate marketing related websites, lists, and products. My social media presence is about all things online marketing as are the majority of my articles and short reports.

This allows me to cross promote my various sites and for example send traffic from my main blog to an optin page etc. It also allows me to show my expertise in this niche across several different platforms including article directories, Twitter, Facebook etc.

What Is Affiliate Marketing
Next, let's talk about money. You're building a niche website and are ready to get paid for the time and effort you put into it. A great place to start is affiliate marketing. The idea is simple. You build a site and generate traffic.

You then recommend various products to your readers via an affiliate link. In that link is tracking code that tells the product seller that a particular visitor came from your website. If that customer makes a purchase, you get an affiliate commission. This is often a percentage of the sales price, but can also be a set amount per referral.

Getting Started With Niche Affiliate Marketing
Now that you have a pretty good idea of what affiliate marketing and niches are, let's talk about how you can get started with some sites of your own. The process is pretty simple. Start by choosing a niche that you have something of value to share in.

This could be based on a hobby or something you've used in your day job. Ideally you want to help readers solve a problem that they have. That could be anything from potty training their child or getting their dog to stop barking to figuring out how to submit a video to YouTube or losing 25 pounds. The point is that they come online looking for a solution and you're there to help them.

Once you have your niche, set up a website or blog and start sharing good content. Include some product recommendations with your affiliate link and you'll be well on your way to generating your first few affiliate commissions.
